Default Non-Lethal Hood Ornament Theft Solution?

Have been thinking about a SIMPLE, non-lethal way to prevent my leaper from being stolen. BTW, am still looking for a black one or at least a black base. Anyway, what about something simple like Scotch (or Irish) taping thumbtacks with points facing N. Chrome from tacks should blend in to some degree. Can file points sharper or duller depending on how big a "point" (pun intended) you make. Thoughts, comments, suggestions, etc welcome!

Non lethal? Here in Alabama, we just shoot the thief if we see them touching the kitty. If you wish, you can set up lights and an alarm that activate with motion and then shoot the thief. Problem solved. Another idea is find the ornament and see if a body shop can epoxy black over chrome. Good luck.

More or less the same here in Montana. That said, the OP lives in the People's Utopia of Kalifornia, where if you look cross at a miscreant they burst out in tears and file a civil rights action against you for "discrimination". Nothing the LA district attorney would like better than prosecuting a "vigilante" car owner for shooting a poor defenseless vandal. The sad fact is that if they do less than $950 in damage, if caught in the act, the cops will write the perp a citation for a misdemeanor.

No help for us but I saw a Rolls Royce that had a powered hood ornament! So when you shut off the car the ornament sunk out of sight and metal panel covered the hole.

I put lasers in the eyes of the leaper on mine and so far it's working fine. I did get burned a couple of times opening the hood, but not too bad.
