Default Noobee Questions????

just bought my 1st jaguar and love it....2006 S-type 3.0

I have a couple of questions I have not seemed to find the answer to by searching the forum.

What type of coolant should I use to replace what is in the car? I have seen several references to Dexcool...orange. Is that the correct stuff?

I have seen several references indicating that synthetic oil shoould not be used in the 3.0....I was planning to use Castrol Edge 5w30, but that is, of course a full synthetic....opinions?

What are most folks using for an oil fiter. I bought a Motorcraft FL400s, and have used Motorcraft parts for years without issue....anything better?

Seems that there are 2 ways to go with the tranny pan. A replacement with a built-in filter and a regular replacement filter....is one better than the other? I know the atf for these cars are expensive (Shell mineral oil)...best place to find it???

Thanks in advance for any and all replies....

Dave

Welcome to the group! Your post might get locked by asking about oil types (big no-no here unless you ask in a Pirate voice, Aarrrrrr!), best advice is use what you like but don't expect to see any miracles to 'prove' that the other guy was wrong.

I use Dex-cool.

Welcome aboard! Dex orange coolant is correct. Simply check owners manual for oil. I used fully synthetic in my 02 X-Type 3.0. Ford oil filter is correct; the 3.0's short block (heads are Jaguar) is a Duratec (Ford). I just purchased the trans. pan/filter/gasket kit along with 8 quarts ZF trans. fluid because I'm about to do a trans. fluid change on my 03 STR. Check the recent trans. service threads for the on-line company that sells the trans. service kit and detailed info. regarding how to perform the service correctly.
