For simple/generic OBD, ISO 9141-2. For others, CAN and PWM. (You can check this by looking at wiring diagrams in JTIS)
If you have a computer (preferably a laptop), buy something whose software runs on your computer. On a lowish budget, probably a USB lead with an ELM327 chip but on a bigger budget probably get an AE (AutoEnginuity) lead and software.
