Exclamation Oil Drip -Any ideas

I have the IMT "O"-ring problem on my 03 s-type 3.0 and I plan to change them out this weekend. But I have now noticed an oil drip on the drivers side as well. I took a quick look under the car and it seems to be up in an area just forward of the oil filter. Anybody got a thought or idea. - THANKS

Daytona sounds like you are looking at valve cover gaskets as well. It also could be the oil pan gasket too, they are also known for developing a leak. You need to make sure you find out which one it is.

There is a nice write up in the "How To" section here with pictures.

If your driver valve cover is leaking chances are that the pass. side will develop a leak as well, along with the spark plug seals that are located within the valve cover. FelPro makes an aftermarket valve cover seal (gasket) kit.

I have the same car and same problem. I replaced the left valve cover but still have a drip. Going to try the right valve cover this weekend.

sprdav are you replacing the lower intake seals as well as the plenum (aka upper intake) seals?

Depending on your mileage you might want to replace the spark plugs since they will be easily accessed with the plenum removed.

I am replacing the spark plugs and coils. Didn't know about the lower instake gasket. Do you recommend replacing that too.

spr, its only 4 more bolts to remove the lower intake and again FelPro makes aftermarket seals for a good price.

Although some will say that you do not have to replace the lower and plenum seals, I did for insurance purposes. I would hate to take it all part then put back together to find the seals leak.

Thanks for the help Rick & SPRdav33 you guys are great! One problem I'm having here in Daytona is finding parts. The closest Dealer is about 75 miles away and he wants top dollar. He charged me $25 for the 2 -IMT "O" rings. Do you know of a good on line mail order?
I haven't been able to find the driver’s side leak but I think it might be the oil pan gasket. It only leaks when the oil is topped off. Once it gets down to minimum it quits leaking. Is the oil pan gasket something I want to tackle?
I had an old Pontiac that you darn near had to pull the engine to change the gasket, - don’t want to go there.

Rick had to replace his S-Type's oil pan gasket not long after he purchased the car. I believe he posted a write-up on the procedure, and it may be in the S-Type stickies at the top of this section. I remember that he had to raise either the engine or the subframe in order to be able to do it, and the job required five or six hours if I am remembering correctly....

Dammit Rick! Don't speak it.....I'd have to consult the records to determine when and what mileage I changed the driver's side cam-cover on the 03.....but I'm SURE if I had to buy the seals in pairs...I'll have to do a complete shop clean up to find the other side....more records-checking...pretty sure that was either a Rock Auto or Amazon buy so I should be able to access what I actually got, whether one or both sides.

Daytona, you didn't just have an oil-change accomplished, did you? Very common for people to oil up the a/c lines when changing the filter and they have corrugated covers...hard to get them wiped down sufficiently not to drip for awhile after. Just a thought.

Flexible funnel comes in handy: (or wrap the lines with plastic wrap)

Thanks Jon89, that's what I was afraid of. But still need to get the gaskets.
I have to find a good on line parts dealer.

Go with FelPro aftermarkets, Advanced, The Zone, Pep etc... waayyy less money than OEM and they will do just fine!

I search RockAuto.com, get a price, paste the p/n into Amazon, then if both seem unreasonably high, OR....if can't find the part that way, call the dealer. We have a great parts-counter-guy, Jose, down in FTW. Also, Nalley Jaguar has been a long-time forum supporter. Saw something about them changing hands recently and don't remember if they intended to keep supporting the site with member-discounts or not. Surprisingly, sometimes the dealer is actually the cheapest (yeah, ok..not very often...but it happens)

Rock is great but depending what you need, you can get burned on shipping relatively easily. Have a 1/2 price "Prime" acct on Amazon (courtesy of kids with *.edu email address) so if a part is within $10 of Rock's price I can frequently get by cheaper with Amazon + 2-day "free" shipping...

Found I'd changed the cam-cover left side at the end of July, 2011 at 86.9K - but must've got part from the dealer via Motorcarman..couldn't find a record of having bought it online, though they are available there. Rt side wasn't leaking in early Jan this year...but I'm not so sure about left side....getting some kind of small drip over there between DCCV changes, but reasonably sure it is PS fluid...Mardis Gras break in a couple of weeks and I'll have another look-see.....

I'm hoping my leak isn't the oil pan. It looks pretty hard to get off.
