Default Out with the Old, in with the Old

After five glorious years of service from my 2003 Carnival red STR, it has come time for a change.

I had the Riski style exhaust with X-pipe, and aside from a mild tint for the CA sun and a black suede headliner to replace the old, it was a stock STR with over 163k miles and was running strong however, it was time for something with less miles.

I put 100k miles on her and went through 2 batteries, tyres, oil changes and regular servicing items; the blower was removed once for injector access at which time I did an oil change on it, aside from that no issues. I ran Amsoil in the rear diff and Redline in the ZF.

After the three R’s - reading, research and reflection, there was only one logical replacement, another STR so Friday I picked up a saucy little 2005 STR in Grey with the light grey interior and 74k miles.

Work under the car is first on the list with changing the transmission and diff oil followed with welding up a replacement exhaust.

Congrats.

How many miles were on the old one when sold?

You may have been the highest miler STR - per year if not overall.

Well done. Hope your "new" STR serves you as well as your "old" STR did....

As of last Friday when I sold her the clock showed 163,204 miles. I don't have any recent photos however, she did not look far of these 2010 photos despite the mileage.

No photos of the new one yet.

Default STR's

I stumbled into Jag ownership completely accidentally.

I was shopping for something simple/basic (Taurus?) for my wife's Aviator replacement. I showed her a Jag on craigslist (as a bit of a joke) and her eyes lit up. Then we test drove it and it was basically a done deal (that I drug me feet on for a couple weeks).
So now we have a black '04 3.0L.
During the shopping process I quickly developed an admiration for the STR's but flew by them as that simply doesn't make sense for us at all - for a number of reasons (not that the 3.0 does).

But they're ridiculously sexy, and I would REALLY like to bury my foot in one. It's just completely impractical for us especially considering my wife would drive it 90% of the time. She cares nothing about performance and would have no appreciation for the cosmetic difference between a 3.0 and STR.
I, on the other hand, am an auto performance junkie (w/o the budget) and see two completely different cars 3.0 vs STR.

I wonder what a low mileage '06-07 STR will be going for in a few years (100k is low mileage to me).

Maybe someday...

Well they are very cheap to buy now.
I was offered $3K for mine when I found an XFR I liked.

But like you said the 3.0L will probably work just as well.

Lagging behind here with pictures of the new one.

In the last few months I have added some 5k plus miles with no real issues other than an incident on the motorway (99 in Stockton CA) when heavy rain forced it into limp home mode. 10 minutes later it returned to normal and by end of day the CEL had cleared up. Water worked into something.

I placed a mild tint on the windows, replaced rear sway links and rods, new tyres and 4-wheel alignment. Fitted the ACM module, Intake elbow and new floor mats. I also put a new under bonnet insulator in as the original was tatty.

I went a little wild on the exhaust system over the 03 STR which had the Riski system, but this time I deleted the resonator and both mufflers adding a Super 40 Delta flow only where the resonator was and piped out the back to subtle tips. Sound is freaking amazing and I have lost the annoying cabin resonance, but it is loud and the bark on WOT is stunning.

A few shots - The sharp eyed will note the missing aftermarket intake as it was going for smog so I pulled it off and the 2003 rims on the 2005, I did not like the 2005 rims.
