Default P0133 and P0306

2000 S-type 3.0 122,000 miles

So a week ago, I was getting the P0171 and P0174 codes. I had the elbow hose, manifold gaskets and Imt rings replaced both upper and lower. The elbow hose was definitely cracked and leaking, the IMT rings I had replaced about a year ago myself but for $4 each but I went ahead and proactively had them changed.

The car ran great (for a day) then the check engine light came on with the P0133 (O2 bank 1, sensor 1 slow response, upstream). Still running okay until the next day I got P0306 (Miss fire cylinder 6). I have ordered a new O2 sensor and coilpack. The coilpack came in first, so I installed it last night with a new spark plug. When I looked down in the cylinder I saw a lot of corrosion from oil (see attached).

Is that normal? Is there another gasket leaking? Also, is that the O2 sensor right next to cylinder 6 that needs to be replaced, if so, that seems like a DIY job also.

The car is still running/jerking rough when I apply heavy gas, but idles great and drives fine below 40mpg. No check engine lights are on at the moment.

Thanks for any insight.
Rob

When you replaced the intake gaskets why didn't you change the cam cover gaskets and the spark plug well gaskets (That's what's leaking oil into the spark plug wells)?

You did almost all the maintenance so go ahead and change these gaskets which should get rid of the oil in the plug wells.

With the age and mileage on your car have the spark plugs and ALL the coils been changed? Because if not go ahead and do it otherwise you will keep fighting what you have now. The coils will fail one by one and you will do the repair multiple times.

I have replaced all the coilpacks and plugs a little more than a year ago. But I haven't changed the valve cover seals. Could that be causing the fault for the spark plug? Too much oil leaking in the spark plug well?

So, just to close this thread out for those with similar problems. I just had to change all the coil packs and plugs. I got a P0305, so rather than going back in after the fact if P0301 or P0303 go bad, I elected to change them all at the same time. Now all plugs and coils are new. Car has been running fine for a few days now. Thanks all.
