P1580 Error - replace Throttle Housing?
Hello, I'm Jeff, a new member - this place seems like a great help!
I have a 2000 Jaguar S type 3.0 that I bought new, it now has 80,000 miles on it. I just had the dealer look at the problem which began with the Failsafe Engine warning - which then disappeared only to be replaced with an amber colored symbol taking its place. The error code is the same- P1580 - The dealer tells me I need to replace the Throttle housing, estimating the repair to cost about $3K. The car, just returned to me, now idles very roughly - a NEW problem that did not exist prior to the dealer's investigation. Does $3K seem a fair price for replacement and parts? He also suggests replacing the accelerator pedal for an additional $500 though he says it's not absolutely necessary. I am reluctant to pay for this repair as the book value of my car is about $3700. Thank you so much.

You mean the throttle body.
You can get yours rebuilt for much cheaper than that. But you need to remove it and send it in so your car will be down while you wait for the throttle body to get repaired and shipped back.
Can you do this work yourself?
Do you have another car to drive while you’re waiting?
If the answer is no to the above questions then you either let the dealer fix it or change cars.

Thanks for your reply t bird 6 - Yes, I do mean throttle body, thank you. I can go without the car during the repair time if need be. I have also since read elsewhere on this site that the possibility of purchasing a used throttle body for my old model can be had for as little as $350 or so, as opposed to $2,500 for a new OEM part for my 2000 model. Jag V8 - I'm new to this site and feared that my question written as a "reply" to a question might not be the relevant area. Your advice to "follow the other posts" is also not relevant, because the diagnosis is not in question. The thrust of my question was as to expense - parts and labor quoted at $3,000.
