Default P1589 and P1383.. help!

Hello all. I have a 2001 Jaguar S-type 3.0 with an big issue. Starting last week, the Jag would not start up. I go to turn it on and it starts to turn over, but never turns on. The car then displays the Engine Failsafe mode, but never turns on. I put my reader on it and get P1589 and P1383 error codes. Being that I am not a mechanic, I look up those codes and there is really nothing straight-forward on how to resolve these errors. All the online entries I read deal with cars that are still driveable, but not experiencing the same issue I am. I guess at this point I need to know how big these error codes could be. I have spent over $4k on this car over the past year on service and with only 97k miles, I think this car is starting to get too expensive for me to keep.
So does anyone have an idea of what it takes? I have a local repair shop, but I am afraid this is might require a trip to the ***********.

Thanks for taking time to read and reply.
Mario

This forum's Search will get you the most likely issues (briefly: possibly a reflash, possibly VVT trouble).

Have a look and see what you think about S303-09 (and whether it's been done) but also BRUTAL's comments about oil etc.

This is why everyone should get the workshop manual (ebay $5-10). It explains the codes in detail (as well as a lot else).

P1589 means the engine will stop or possibly run at very low idle speed.

With two codes like those I'd be looking for wiring problems (if battery is known good) but if you're not good with car DIY then it's probably a dealer (or indy) job.
