Park Brake Failure

I am new to the forum. I have 2005 S Type: sometimes when I start car I cannot go into drive or reverse b/c it says the park brake assist is on. I have to turn car off, then put into position II pull up with brake on and hope that it releases itself. I disconnected the battery and this helped for a short time. Most recently it said the park brake was on, but car moved and I could drive it, but it had the beeping indicator going off non-stop... Does anyone know what my next step would be? I disconnected battery and computer did reset so I don't hear the beeping, but my next stop after that the car then would not go into drive until I did the shut off and on routine all over. Please Help! Thanks!!

1st the car started saying park brake failure and I could not get it to go forward or into reverse. I reset the battery, it took the problem away for about 1 month. It started happening again. It comes and goes:::::
2nd ( Most recently ) the car will go into drive, but says the park brake is on. I cannot get it to release, and the alert beeper will not go away. The park brakes are also on so it seems as if emergency brake is on, but the car drives just fine. I unplugged battery again today and now the beeping stopped, but the 1st problem is still happening when I stop car and go to get in and drive each time.. Thanks for any help!

Ditto on what Rick said. If it turns out NOT to be the battery, next step is to confirm visually if the EPB is being applied/released properly. Each rear caliper has a mechanical push/pull cable leading to a lever which must move fully for the brake to work properly. I've had both of my calipers partially seize and now routinely lubricate the area during tire changeover.
If there's no movement at the caliper ends, suspect the EPB motor.
