Parking Brake Failure

Parking Brake Failure
2005 S type 3.0 The parking brake keeps getting stuck "parking brake failure" on the read out and after car sits for a couple days the battery is drained. I followed the procedure to release it by removing the negative, wait for 10 minutes and that works. Then it happens again and again. Can the parking brake just be disconnected? I have never had to actually use it in2 years. The dealer wants to charge me 700 !! Is there any other soltion to my problem? Thanks

you could try leaving the parking brake off, by holding the parking brake button down, while switching the ignition off
but the park mechanism on the auto box it not really designed the carry the full weight of the car,
best way would be to get it plugged in, and see what faults there are, its most probably just a stiff parking brake cable, a low battery is another common reason you get epb faults
cheers

Clearly the "P" function on the box can only be engaged when standing dead still, but then it will hold the car as well as any parking brake can. The only thing you can't do, then, is hand brake turns. However i would not attempt that with the automatic hand brake either!
All in all a pretty stupid idea! At least in my book. Should have stayed with cable operated brake as in any normal car.
For the record, in all of my 20 plus years of driving an automatic car (several options) I have never used the hand brake, and never had the need to either. "P" has been totally adequate.
Addition: And here I must admit, I think I have maybe used it a couple of times, if parking on a hill and leaving a kid or an animal in the car. Some of the boxes can be knocked out of P by a kid or a dog.

Just asking as I know that old batteries can give plenty of warnings and other trouble!
Maybe worth a try?

I had mine get stuck on once and I forced it open by connecting the battery to the wires that power the parking brake motor, they are in trunk, that is how i found the motor still worked. you can swap the positive and negative to move the brake on and off.
This is the name of the video on youtube.
just realized this was an old thread,

Now I will not profess to know better, but absent any explanation of your statement, i would tend to doubt what you say!

Currently having the same problem. However, releasing the handbrake doesn't solve the problem. Had the codes read from the system and all but one could be reset. Removing the hand brake codes solved the issue on the stuck brake. The last - a stubborn one - had to do with the clutch pedal sensor - looking into that now. Most likely a defective sensor ...
What's a good tool for reading the codes. It seems that readers not designed for Jaguar do not read well, or all ECU's from the whole system
