Default Please help! 03 STR tranny slips when I give it a lot of gas

Hi my extremely well maintain 03 STR the tranny slips when I give it a good push. Normal driving not issues if I hit the gas hard to try and pass someone it's slips. Thought maybe was low on fluid because I had a leak. It changed at 76k guy said it wasn't that low maybe half a quart and it looked new no smell and very clean. Also giving the code for transmission range sensor. I call jag they don't have that part for this car, they say everything is inside the tranny. So my guy is telling me I need a new tranny. In my gut I really don't think I need a tranny at 76k miles when car has been so well maintained. Called a tranny guy gave him the code he said he thinks it the gear select box. When I drive it flashes some code but so quick I can't make out what it is but is says perform or performance something. Also I don't know if this means anything after getting fluid changed none of my windows worked so I turned car of and on and they worked again. My remote control also didn't work at first. Then it would just lock and not unlock then again after a few tries works good again. Has anyone ever had this issue or have any idea of what it could be? I just don't want to spend tons of money on a tranny or a gear box selector and then end up with the same problem. Thank you guys so much in advance for any help or advise you may have!

First things first - how old is your battery? Dying batteries cause all sorts of different issues in these cars, including flaky transmission operation....

Abnormal window operation is also a classic sign of a dying battery....

To be honest I don't know. I've only had it for 3 months and I have all the history and the maintaince records. I'll check for that. Thank you the input. I always though a bad battery would just die and car wouldn't start. But wow would that be a relief of that was the case. Thanks again

No, but a banana peel on the floor would

Have a competent shop re-check the fluid level and refill if there's any doubt.

The fill procedure is awkward and exacting so is #1 suspect.

Any competent shop should be able to get the part - but (as they should know very well) Jaguar isn't the place to go since they don't make gearboxes.

Your mileage has no impact on your battery's condition. How old is your battery? Find the date stamp on it (XX/YY where XX means month and YY means year) and let us know. These cars consume tons of electrical power and any battery more than three years old could be suspect. Some batteries have been known to begin failing in just a year or two....

I will check the battery just in case. Just strange that that would make tranny slip.
