Default please help me.

recently i was driving my 200 jaguar s type 4.0 and the battery light came on, then the a/c/ went off.. all the lights and dash went dark and the car died. i jumped the car off and for a few mins ( like 3 or 4 ) it seemed to be charging.. then all of a sudden the car stalled and the battery was dead again.

I had a alternator installed certain that this was the problem but tonite before even driving it i went in the house to only come back out and the car was stalled and the battery dead again.

i dont know what to do. im really low on $$$ and i cant afford to put a whole lot of money into this car.

Im praying to God that someone here has had the same issue and knows exactly what is going on. please help me.

The battery seems to only do this when the car is running. i put it on charge and it charges up and hold a charge... its only when it is running that this problem occurs

Have you had the battery load tested by a shop?

These cars are very finicky when it comes to battery problems. My is on a dead or dying battery.

so are you thinking that if it has a bad cell or something that the charging system would stop and the battery would drain all the way down to zero with the car running ? it just seems weird

Very inexpensive to have the battery checked but how reliable, loads of threads about that.

I agree that I would concentrate on the alternator. Charge battery, start vehicle then check voltage going to the battery.

Default my jag stops charging then dies

hello all.. im new to this. I own a 2000 Jaguar S type 4.0
This is what happened. One evening as the car was idling i noticed the lighting behind the gauges were pulsing up and down on the dash.

It did this for a few mins then it stopped. Fast forward to the next day. As i was driving the check engine light came on and then the battery light came on.

Then the a/c shut off and all the lights were off inside. I pulled over and turned off the car and the battery was completely drained. I jumped started it and once i got home let it run.

It then stalled and the battery was dead again. I jumped it off again. All the lights inside were on bright but again after a few minutes the car died and the battery drained to nothing.

I had a alternator installed thinking this has to be the issue. Well last nite after having it installed i charged the battery and started the car. I went inside to grab my driver license and when i came out the car was stalled and the battery dead again. It seems to me that the battery charges for 3-4 mins then it stops charging and dies.

PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP ME.

IM BASICLY BROKE AND I DONT HAVE THE MONEY FOR A EXPENSIVE REPAIR. IM PRAYING SOMEBODY HAS HAD THE SAME ISSUE

NEW ALTERNATOR LAST NIGHT.. NO CHANGE IN THE SYMPTOMS . In my experience with alternators and batteries is that if it was the battery and not the alternator that the car would still run untill it was shut off and still be unable to start. However if it was the alternator and not the battery that the battery would drain because the alternator inst charging. I CHANGED THE ALTERNATOR YESTERDAY and the problem remains

beema, how are you with using a multimeter? From the sounds of things, you have a bad wire between the fuse box and the alternator leading to intermittent contact.

There are a few checks that I would say to try first though. In the rear fuse box, remove fuse F15 (5 amp fuse) and replace it with a new fuse (another 5 amp fuse). See if that fixes your problem. Also, replace fuse F11 (15 amp fuse) in the front fuse box with a new fuse.

Lets see what we have at that point and how you feel about using a multimeter and then we can take things from there.

Forget what you know, and your previous experience, it's a documented fact that these cars will start with a failing battery but run with strange electrical problems.

If you can check each cell of the battery, go to an auto parts store and buy a hygrometer. That will test the strength of each individual cell. I'm bettin one or more are weak/bad..

+1.

Simplest and first check is measuring battery voltage with the engine at idle, revved to a few thousand RPM and with the engine off. That will speak volumes.

Changing parts *****-nilly gets expensive very quickly.

hey thermo.. man i appreciate ur reply.. seems like u have given the best advice... i will try the fuse advice. i really feel that u are right about the bad wire between the alternator and fuses or something. this morning it charged fine. i drove it for 20 mins and it was great so i feel you are right about intermittent contact
