Default Plugs - Intake Manifold Gaskets - Need Some Advise Please

Hey,

I bought a 2004 S-Type 6cyl 3.0 late last year in 2012.

recently the cam covers started leaking oil and when I replaced the plugs on the Left bank they were pretty bad. Looked like they haven't been replaced in a while.

Knowing I have to pull the intake manifold to get at the right bank, I have been doing some reading here and want to make sure I cover what should be replaced when I pull the Mani to replace the plugs.

1. Upper/Lower Manifold Gaskets
2. Left/Right Cam cover Gaskets
3. IMT O-Rings
4. Lower Breather Hose
5. Inner Cam Gaskets? Do these typically get replaced for an oil leak or is it a good idea since I have the covers off anyways? OEM are about 25.00 each.

So Far, Using ALL OEM parts, I am up to $257.21 not including Coils if I need them.

Is there anything else that should be replaced while I have the Manifold/cam covers off? Don't want to go back in there anytime soon as this will kill at least a Saturday afternoon.

Thanks in advance,

Tom

I just recently did this with my 03 V6. I replaced the valve cover gaskets, IMT valve gaskets, plugs, and coils. I did not replace the lower intake gasket but others here would recommend doing it. Except for the IMT gaskets I used aftermarket parts from Napa. I was able to get all the parts for around $400 with a discount that Napa gave me. If you buy a aftermarket valve cover gasket it will come with the spark plug well gaskets and grommets. I think the breather hose you are referring to is on the older S type's. You have to be real careful disconnecting the vacuum lines to avoid any damage. Be careful that there are 2 quick connect vacuum lines that are a pain to disconnect. I wonder if there is a special tool for this because I spent a lot of time trying to push the connector in with a screw driver in order to remove the hose. You will have to fight the urge to just yank that hose out of there. Be sure to add the RTV silicone on the valve covers in the 2 locations to avoid leaks when you are putting it together. Be sure to follow the tightening sequence and use the proper torque setting. Except for the quick connect hoses, accidentally ordering an incorrect gasket, and dropping an intake bolt into the engine bay it was an easy job. Be sure to download the JTIS, it will walk you through the repair.

Hi, I have just replaced that annoying vacuum bend below the fuel intake manifold. Do you need to put gasket glue or cement on the intake gaskets when I reassemble? Cheers, Wayne

No gasket glue for the intake manifold. You will need silicone on the valve covers though.
