PO741B fualt code
First time poster here I have a 2003 Stype 3.0 with an auto trans and every now and again I get the check engine light coming on, then I get gearbox fault in the message centre, I have the car scanned and they came up with this fault code P0741B, the local Jag dealer told me it needs a torque convertor but I find this hard to believ as the car only has 65000 KM on it, could this fault code be a sensor or wiring issue?

RE: PO741B fualt code
Thanks for posting. The P0741 code is a known issue and yes, it needs a torque convertor. There is a TSB for it. Logging in now - TSB S307-13 2003 S-Type from Vin M45255 thru M83148. Is your vehicle out of warranty? Does it have extended warranty? Anyway, the diagnosis is probably correct. Sorry to break the news to you.

Posting this pretty much for anyones benifit if you have S-Type with P0741 code:
The part for your 3.0 S-Type retails for approx $1690.00[/align]The labour is 4.2 hours warranty but customer pay would be 1.5 times that. So $787.50 if your dealer is at $125.00 /hr. [/align][/align]So you need to ask them where the additional thousand dollars is coming from.
[/align]Hope this helps and please do not bring up my name with your dealer. [/align][/align]If they give you any bull about the diagnostic, you should not pay any more than half hour due to them pulling code and the TSB existing already. No other diagnostic would be needed.

RE: PO741B fualt code
Ok called the nice service coordinator at the local dealer and asked if she even knew anything about the TSB for the after mentioned fault code. SHe was kinda shocked that I knew what a TSB was and even more shocked when I asked if there was anything that could be done by way of a policy warrenty as by reading the TSB Jag is acknoweldging that there is an issue with the torque convertor. FJT I thank you for your help here even if JAG does nothing for me. Just nice to know that someone out there cares about the end user.

RE: PO741B fualt code
Well not much to report on this issue, the local Jag dealer seems to be ducking the issue, they take a very long time to return my phone calls and just keep saying that they have not made a decision yet. Was thinking of actually sending a email to Jag Canada and see if I get anywhere.

You need to call Jaguar of Canada and tell them that your car only has 40,000 miles or 65000 km on it. They installed the transmission with a know defective torque convertor (per TSB) and you have an extended warranty That will pay a percentage of the repair and you would like for them to help you out with either the labour or the parts.

RE: PO741B fualt code
[:@] Well that was a useless wait for nothing from Jag Canada, after two weeks of emails and phone calls, even when presented with the TSB that states the tourque convertors are defective they said the same as the dealer suck it up and pay for the repair, the would not even offer to pay for the parts and I would pick up the labour. Oh well off to see the lawyer now to see what I can do through the legal system.
