Did the workshop manage to refresh the ecu?

 

I think he's 9 hours behind you, time-wise.

He said it was in the workshop Monday and it is now Tuesday so there might be good news.

Car is fixed and back to 100%!!!

Boy am I a moron too! (I think?)

First a very sincere thank you to everyone that helped! Cambo (Cameron), Bob Gauff and others who jumped to my aid as we went back and forth on what to do next. Hard to believe a guy in Australia would spend all that time to help a guy in Texas!

As I posted I decided I was out of my depth at this point and Jaguar was giving me the run around including Brutal. Which is odd? So I went looking for an independent specialist garage.

In Houston I found Motorcars LTD.. They only work on Jags and Land Rovers and have for years. First they were wanting $600 to even look at it and pretty much said the same thing as the dealer that is was a wiring problem and they would be glad to troubleshoot it at $115/hour!

I asked if he would just follow what I wanted done and I would not hold them liable for anything that did not work or damaged my car further. He was hesitant and finally said just bring it down and we will see what we can do.

When I got there I was able to talk to the tech directly. I think he was relieved that I had everything out so all he had to do was undo 1 screw on the ECU to swap back and forth. I explained my long sad tale and everything I had done or tried before I brought it to them. Unfortunately I was not allowed in the shop and did not get to see anything. Only talked to the tech and shop manager after they had their little conferences first.

Tech understood and went to work. I was completely wrong on what they used. Autologic does have the capability to scan and reprogram ECU's and that's what they used. Scans are attached of both ECU's. My original is SN-N19907.

Now this is where my mistake came to light. There was a fuse blown but I was not told any more info or which one it was. Again after the fuse was replaced we still had the problems. So now he got into re-flashing the ECU's.

Both ECU's were good and he was able to read and download everything. My original was NOT damaged or bad but was somewhat scrambled? Not to sure what he meant by this? So did the fuse pop in the wreck or did it get blown during troubleshooting? Still I should have found that!

But he found both ECU's gave the exact same set of errors. So he came back and again said it's a wiring problem and I need to start there. I pointed out to him that I had done wire checks but did not find anything wrong. The MAF circuit is the easiest one to get at and he checked that out with the same results I had. There are no wiring problems.

Took the replacement one and while he could read it and download everything. For some reason that ECU could NOT be re-flashed. Now he only tried once because we had the original to work with so maybe with a few more tries he could have got it. From what I have read it's not uncommon to take a couple of try's to get it to work.

He went back to my original ECU (The one the ECU repair place told me was not repairable!) and it took the re-flash and he also found an updated calibration file and installed that too! Programmed both of my keys and was done!

Drove the car home 40+ miles with no problems. I only had until the end of the month to get my inspection and registration done. BUT I had just wiped everything on the ECU so I was stuck with P1000 and I needed P1111 before it would pass.

Had to get the readiness monitors set before I would pass emissions. Using instructions from the forum for the very first time I was able to follow the drive cycle procedures and got the beloved P1111!

Went to the inspection place after sorta bolting on the new fender and headlight and front bumper cover. Still waiting for my passenger headlight bracket from the UK. It was grabbed by US customs for some reason and returned to the UK vendor. Took another $35 in shipping to get it going again. Car passed 100%! Came home and dropped the registration renewal in the mail right away.

Car needs the head light bracket and then I can start final assembly before getting the new fender painted.

Sorry for the long post but this one wore me out and I was very close to selling the car to the junk yard. Funny thing was the inspection guy is a Jag fan and offered me $4000 for it with the wrong color fender on it!

Repair cost $280 all labor.

I know you're relieved. Glad you finally found a repair source that was willing to work with you. Sorry to hear that Brutal wouldn't/couldn't help. Knowing all he has done for those of us here on the forum, that is truly a shame....

 

Congrats, nice save. Another STR lives to see another day. Persistence paid off.

Wish I really could understand how it was fixed... but a fix is a fix

 

I'm glad it's fixed. Wonder which fuse. Would be good to know.
