Power steering fluid change

The 2000MY has a FORD rack assy. The later cars used the ZF rack that did not require the bleeding requirement.
JTIS describes the procedure.
Refill the P.A.S. reservoir, using new fluid, and bleed the system, following the
procedure detailed in JTIS Section 211-00, General Procedures, System Bleeding.
Note that a vacuum pump and adapter (Special Tool 416-001-01) are required.
Please find and use JTIS Section 211-00, General Procedures, System Bleeding.
JTIS is available for download all over the interweb.

The Ford rack also used a unique fluid (ESSO 998) that we got from the parts dept.
I don't know if Jaguar still sells it or an equivalent that is recommended. I still have a few liters so I never looked for a substitute.
You might ask a Ford dealer for the fluid for a 2000MY Lincoln LS. I'm sure that car also has a Ford steering rack.

As a previous owner of a 2000 S Type you need to vacuum bleed the rack. It's actually a relatively easy procedure once you have the right tools.
Don't listen to those that say the rack can be bleed of air by turning the wheel, whether on ground or in the air.
It cannot be accomplished and you risk blowing out the rack.
As far as fluid I used Mercon V ATF fluid with no issues. (If I recall Mercon ATF is spec for the PS system)
The bleed adapter can be purchased for around $50.00
