Default Premium Sound into Standard

My old ( 2002.5) S Type had premium sound with tweeters and sub woofers as a standard option. I have visually checked the wiring on the back of the audio unit and it contains the wiring for a standard ICE.

I want to upgrade my newer car to Premium. I ahve swapped the head unit (~ due to a fault ) and have now swapped the complete cd/amp/nav stack in the boot.

The problem is that as soon as I go from 0 volume to 1 setting its like its at full volume. I have compared the wiring diagrams for both model years and both standard and premium ICE, and basically premium goes to the amp first, but my premium car has the wires from the head unit.

Basically has anyone done this, i dont want to swap all the speakers, and subs if there is another part of the loom that is buried within the car, I think there will be a loop or something.

Does someone know if the audio signals are sent on the fibre optics on a premium set up ? If not how does the amp receive the signal ?

Any thoughts or experiences please.
