While replacing spark plugs, I found this probe that was just laying behind the Throttle Body with 51-11-1 embossed on it. Sent the enclosed image to the Service Depart Manager of Jaguar Tulsa Oklahoma and he said; "It appears to be the intake air temp sensor, this is only on supercharged engines." If he is correct then why am I having such a difficult time figuring out where it should be plugged in? Refer to my attached image.
I haven't seen anything like that on mine. The orange/black suggests a check valve, the part with a number looks like a cap but kinda goofy. My guess would be a vacuum line for something that your particular car doesn't use. It can't be a temp sensor if it's connected to a vacuum line. If it were an intake temp sensor it would have to be in the intake and without it in there would be a monstrous vacuum leak that wouldn't go undetected. I vote it an 'extra' that may be connected to something in other vehicles or for an option that you don't have, happens mostly with extra electrical connectors, but also with hoses. In my short time of researching stuff about the STR I've found numerous inconsistencies. At first I assumed they were modifications done along the way by owners or mechanics, but I'm swayed heavily towards Jag having done inconsistent stuff. Some inconsistencies appear to be changes made throughout a build year, but there are a few things I've found that indicate they might use parts a bit *****-nilly throughout production as well as different stuff depending on the destined market for the car.
Guys,
I believe Cambo is on the right path with this one. I believe this is the diagnostic port for measuring the supercharger pressure. Similar to 2008 XKR I'm doing prototype work on. The hard lines are typically vacuum lines or pressure lines. This would route to the supercharger hat on the XKR's. With the different layout of the S types, there may be a port on the discharge side of the supercharger that this routes to.
I have my setup plumbed out to a 3bar map then routed to my DAQ unit for logging boost pressure.
See in Ragn0r's photo , the hard line that is on the drivers side of the discharge hat location.
Well there is a port that already measurers the blower pressure. It's hooked up to your fuel pressure sensor. Maybe that vacuum hose is connected to this port?
