Default Problems after rear pads fitted!

Hi all

I'm hoping you Jag pro's can shed some light on this plight.
2004 Diesel S-Type. Brakes were spongy so took it to a local garage where they fitted rear pads. Since then, the brakes pedal is very hard almost as if the servo isn't working (I have pumped the pedal with the engine off and then started it. The pedal does go down, but I don't think it's enough). Also the DSC not available light is now on on the dashboard.

Having read few posts, I suspect the EPD was either not sitched off before removing or not reset after the pads were fitted. Would this give the symptoms I describe.

The guy at the garage who is about 112 years old and says it needs a servo, but it seems too much of a coincidence.

Any suggestions?

Many thanks

I can't see how the EPB could affect the pedal or cause the DSC issue.

I think I've read that if calipers are pushed in too fast it can cause damage to (master cylinder) internal seals but maybe I'm mistaken so do some reading and see what others say.

The usual cause of issues (but not the pedal one) is that the battery went flat but that really doesn't seem to fit what you say.

Thanks jagv8

Looks like it may take some working out.

I'll let you know what comes of it.

If the EPB was not switched off the caliper could not have been removed for servicing. Failing to reset it after fitting new pads may give an EPB warning. Do you have this? Does the EBP work?

In my case the pedal feel and position after new pads were fitting was vastly different than before but was far superior. I had not appreciated how bad the old feel was.............

I doubt there is anything wrong with the booster/servo or master cylinder.

No idea about the DSC.

The DSC thing can be (probably is) due to something relating to an ABS sensor (or its ring). Possibly rust from working on the brakes getting in somewhere.

The garage should sort that out.

I feel they ought to sort out the pedal problem and if it is the servo it's more than a coincidence. It's something like bleeding wrongly, more likely.
