Hey all,
Moderator I am not sure if this is in the correct forum please move it if necessary.
I've tried the search feature and could not find what I am looking for.
I am in the market for an S-Type R. My price range affords me the 03's with at least 100k miles.
Many times certain years and models have issues, like brakes, tranny, rear ends, electrical etc, and I need to know what I am getting into before purchasing. What should I look for with this model and year?

Welcome Diamond. The 03-04 STR is arguablly the most muscular looking of the STR's. Check the CARFAX and service records and have a qualified mechanic check her over before purchase. These cars are awesome, sexy, and affordable. A well maintained specimen with 100k on the clock will likely go around twice and still put out 400 ponies. My 03 STR has 135k and will clean the clocks of alot of muscle wanna be's.

Thank you for the welcome. The only problem I'm going to run into is that I can't find any STR's in California that are in my price range. More than likely I will have to buy out of state and that is part of the problem. I don't know any mechanics out of state. Thats one of the reasons I am concerned regarding problems. I read that the older XK's had teething problems with cylinder liners and cam chain tensioners. After reading that I wondered if the same was true for the STR's.
If you haven't checked cars.com yet, you'll find a red 2007 STR in Sacramento...

Thank you for finding that but it is a bit out of my price range and I am looking for black. The good thing is there is a Black STR for sale in Sac and its in my price range. I've been using Auto Trader exclusively and completely forgot about Cars.com. Thank you for the lead!
