Hi Liam,

Yes mate, the lenses as far as could tell when I did this are identical as they are marked up for use with both the h7 and d2s bulbs.

I didn't use the oven as I was afraid of damaging anything on the STR housings. As you say, they are hard to come by, so I took a little more time and used the wife's hair drier !!!! Lol

Good luck

Tris.

The only thing to add is that now in the UK such lights must have self-levelling (which means deflection sensors and a module) plus headlamp powerwash or it's an MoT fail (which means car off road until rectified) plus if discovered on the road points on license and a fine etc.

UK STRs came with the above but TristanC's car won't have some/all of those items.

As per JagV8. Beware the new UK MOT regulations as they are now a lot stricter on aftermarket HID's.

I fitted genuine Jag HID's to my S type a few years ago and had no problems with MOT's untill now.

I already had the headlamp washer system but at the time could not get hold of the self levelling height adjustment system so just kept the manual adjustment via the button in the interior.

This was not good enough for the recent MOT tester and as a result I have replaced the HID's with my original Halogen light units untill I come up with an automatic adjustment system.

Bugger!!!

You might be able to get the module and sensors from a scrapyard (wrecker). Bit of a pain to fit the wiring if it's not there already I expect. I think the module is in a front footwell (may be driver's) and is marked ADHLS.

I suppose the change in the law is because of all the people with unadjusted HIDs - kinda ironic since there are plenty whose HIDs probably pass but blind everyone anyway Seems like every 4x4 as a start.

And those who retrofit will by no means all be blinding others. Oh well.

Factory BMW fitments are also a huge pain. Every single oncoming BMW seems to need adjustment so it must be the way the factory aims them.

Of course, driving a low slung car like a Jaguar makes it doubly painful for the driver.

At least the UK has the annual MOT to find the worst offenders. In North America you can pretty much light up low flying planes without fear.

Yeah, I was going to ask if you'd had an MOT since you did it. I know some BMW boys over here who've sailed through the test with dodgy Ebay conversion kits, I think a lot of it depends on your tester and how picky / moody he's feeling that day

Default Great!

Thanks for the help TristanC! Saved me a potential headache trying to find another STR headlight!

Was up in Brecon for a drive on Saturday, couldn't resist!

I want to replace my halogen headlamps with xenon headlamps on my s-type 3.0. does anyone know if this is possible? the wiring harness to the headlamp assembly looks the same on both.
