Default Quick climate control question

'05 S-Type 3.0

When I have my climate control set in the "auto" mode the indicator light for the air conditioner is always on, even when the conditions/setting wouldn't seem to require air conditioning. Is this normal? Does this mean that the compressor is always activated (turning) even though the conditions would seem to preclude the need for air conditioning?

Thanks.

Normal. A better name for "A/C" is "HVAC" (Heating, Ventilation, and Cooling). All the bases are covered - if the temperature in your cabin is warmer than your auto setting, the A/C will run. If the temperature in your cabin is cooler than your auto setting, the heat will run. That's what the "auto" mode is all about....

It's normal. However, you can use the Mode switch to run the heat manually if you desire. I've found doing that and setting the vents to the face and feet seem to work better at warming up my hands and feet at first. You can also disengage the AC switch for heat only. If you do this, it's still a good idea to run the AC weekly or so to keep all the seals etc in working order.

Yup, Normal. According to the manual, the climate control automatically controls humidity. Therefore the compressor will run when there is a need to pull humidity out of the cabin air. The "A/C" lamp will stay lit indicating that the compressor may be on. It doesn't always run and only cycles when needed.

I had this same question and was going to post this question. I decided to do a search first, and voila! This is such a great forum!

Ironically I have an 05 S-Type 3.0 also.
