Quick transmission question (2006 s-type 3.0)
So I'm lazy, and the answer I'm looking for is probably on here but I don't feel like searching through dozens of pages.
Just got 2006 s-type with 6 speed auto. When the car is cold (under 30 F outside), first gear sort of slowly shifts to second. Not rough, just a half second where there is nothing. Is this a sign of the dreaded transmission lurch? (52,000 miles)

No reason to feel paranoid. Our S-Types are all getting a bit long in the tooth and certain components must be checked and sometimes refreshed or replaced. ATF is at the top of that list. So start with fresh ATF and see how your car responds. That may indeed be all you need to do in order to resolve your shifting issues....
Mercon SP is a much lower-cost alternative ATF to the factory fill of Lifeguard 6. Many of us are now running it in these ZF 6HP26 transmissions (which is what you have). Available at any Ford dealership for between $7 and $8 per quart. Do a bit of research and decide if you want to go with it....

Here is some basic information on replacing the sump/filter and connector sleeve on the ZF 6HP26 gearbox.
When replacing the connector sleeve, it is critical that there be no static electrical discharge to any of the gearbox pins and that the sleeve maintains a 3mm gap with the housing.
Follow the procedure outlined in JTIS for filling the gearbox to the correct level at 45 - 50 C.
