A sign of the times I'm afraid. I see sh*t cars like this all the time. Instead of falsely aspiring to have what they cannot they should be working hard to figure out how they can legitimately earn the real thing. Unfortunately there are precious few setting proper examples of behaviour in this country so it passes for acceptable. And China is such a corrupt piece of cr*p of a country to let this obvious copyright infringement occur. This is hardly legitimate competition of manufacturing.

How lame can one person get to actually throw these on their calipers. Unfortunately I see absolute CRAP like this everyday, do my best to make myself visable to them as I shake my head with a smile on my face out of pure disgust.

 

Having owned an 04 STR since its "in service date", the Brembo overall are a great brake system. High-speed stopping is good and resistant to fade for street use. It does grab a bit at low speed and so far, three different sets of pad and new factory rotors haven't cured. It may not be the calipers but how Jaguar has tuned the overall feel of the system. On the other hand it offers a 4 caliper design, lower unsprung mass, etc. Overall, the Brembo's implmenation on the Jaguar is great compared to most other systems out there but it isn't the best implementation with Brembo's (in terms of user feedback provided during braking). For reference, test drive any of the Porsche's including the heavy SUV. IMO, the two complaints effect low speed parking and modulating feedback feel that would help in cornering...but then again, the 4000lb curb weight of the STR may be a bigger issue in "cornering fun."

FYI, I was reading an article on brake design in a SAE publication, it seems like the stopping distance in most disk brakes are limited by the tire grip so the focus is on other issues like weight, heat dissipation, feel, wear, dust, etc.

Also, there was a car and driver test where cars were subjected to a series of 100 mph? to 0 stops per cycle. The stoping distance and pedal travel was recorded and the end of every cycle. If you look at the Cayenne with brembo's, they just gave up testing since the results didn't change after a larger number of cycles. The other systems either faded completly or the brake travel/effort was on the verge of complete fade.

At the end of the day, if you just look at the stopping distance for one stop (typically car review spec), the difference tends to be small (3 to 15 ft) and may be dominated by the type of tire and road condition at the time of test. Where Brembo and other high performance brakes really shine is the ability to stop over and over again but that's not reflected in common tests.
