Radio - No Sound
Hello, I just got a new to me 2006 S-Type 4.2 and the Stock Alpine stero is not working. Initially none of it lit up, changed the 20A (F18 - Radio) fuse now it lights up but have no sound. Also changed the 10A (F26 - Antenna Amp) fuse that had a 5A in it. Not sure if it should be a 5 or 10, but looked up an owners manul online and it shows it to be a 10A.
Still not working are the 6-disc changer, and still not getting any sound.
Both the 30A - F28 Power Amp fuse and the 10A - F29 CD changer fuse appear to be good.
I will be running up to the auto parts store to get more fuses and change them anyways.
There is also a brown/brown-white wire in the trunk that does not appear to be connected, I do not know if this is related to my problem. or what to connect it to.
Please Help, I want to love this fine automobile, but without a working stero, that will be diffiult.
Thanks,
Brian Shaw

2006, Checked and Replaced Fuses
Checked and Replaced the fuses in question. Read somewhere about the radio test, holding both am/fm and eject, and then eject and mix, it would not run through all the codes and only came back with code MAIN 1.0050, after looking that up, it looks like it may be a bad amp.
Has anyone experiencted this or replaced the amp?
Anybody know where the amp is located? (is it the unit above the cd changer in the trunk)
Thanks,
Brian Shaw

I have a 2003 jaguar s-type R, comes with premium sound stereo. I lost the sound everything else works, i think my amplifier is burnt due to a leak i had in the trunk, i noticed the amp with some water on the top of it. Please if anyone knows how i can hook up a different amp to it or if i can bypass the amp i would really appreciate it.. please help.. thankxx

I've serviced consumer electronics for over 45 years. If your looking to swap out the amp check with electronics suppliers and see if they have a wiring harness that will adapt to your current head end unit. If you can find that the job becomes very simple. You may have to get the model number of the alpine system to be able to cross-reference that harness.

Well that would be fine and dandy, but my reading around the forums suggests there is some proprietary Jag black magic at work that makes trouble for you if the system detects anything not in its expected place. Certainly my experienced Jag mechanic is still scratching his head and another Jag specialist place told me that they outsource all audio work to car stereo specialists rather than deal with the Jag system.
I'm just super annoyed because it was all working fine until I unjammed the CDC. Who knew the plastic carpet tack in the changer mechanism was keeping the whole system working!

Yes demons may be there, I understand that a non Jag Alpine changer won't work but it surely sounds like he just skipped the changer out of the loop.
