Default Radio/Tape problem

Hey everyone. I have a Jaguar S-Type R 2002 that I've owned for almost a year now. Recently, I've been having a problem with the tape player/radio.

For the FM radio, whenever I try to browse through the channels with the automatic channel seek, it doesn't work and the message "TP SEEK" pops up. I only get this problem when browsing FM radio, not AM. The only thing I can do is manually change the channels.

Second problem is my tape player. I usually put a tape adapter to play music through my cell phone. For the unaware, it looks like this:

This last week, it stopped working when I put that in. It says something like "TAPE A error" then it switches to "TAPE B" and it says error as well. I thought it might be the adapter that was broken, so I tried another one but it didn't work either.

Any ideas on how to fix these? Not only am I tired of listening to the radio, but just browsing through the channels is a hassle .

Can you post a picture?? You say a STR but I have never seen one with a tape player?

But below you mention the 4.0L engine. The STR only came with the 4.2L??

I was going to say the same thing... The "pre-03" cars had a tape player. The post 03 cars had one available but I have never seen one. It goes in the same spot as the CD player on the 03 and up cars. If you have one... I would guess really rare.

Does your radio look like this.....

I would just look on E-bay. There are a few units that are listed there. They are fairly inexpensive. Your radio was in the S Type only from 1999 to 2002. No other Jaguar used the same radio.

WOW! Great luck! Here is a listing for a new unit for only $22.80 plus shipping! And the user has 100% positive feedback... Buy that! (heck if you plan on keeping the car, buy two!)

Thanks a lot for the find. Before purchasing it though, I want to make sure my radio really is broken and that it's not just a configuration problem or something. Is there a way to reset it or maybe unplugging it and plugging it back could help? Any guide on how to do that? I'm not a huge connoisseur, contrary to many here.

Thanks again for the find, I'll be purchasing it if all else fails.

It really sounds to me that the radio is going bad. The only ways to reset it and try it then would be to cut power to it. It would be more than a fuse I believe. Even on the old cars there is more integration than many realize. So, the two methods I would use are either disconnect the battery or pull the unit and fully unplug it. Disconnecting the battery will then erase any other memory settings in the car as well as the radio. It will mean reprogramming stuff like the memory in the seats. Now pulling it out of the dash will mean taking various trim parts out and pulling the unit.... Considering it is a ten year old car / unit that is more than likely going bad.... While it's out I would just swap it for the new one. Heck, it's cheaper than a couple oil changes at a garage.

If your not comfortable taking your own radio out, I'm sure that a local reputable stereo shop will do the swap for you for a little cash and probably less than an hours work.

Honestly, if this was my car I would grab up the new radio and just replace it. A NOS (New Old Stock) deal like that is very rare and likely to not come around again...

In fact.... Anyone reading this with an early car is crazy to not grab up one of those at that price....Just to have a spare..

** Note ** looks like there are only 4 left and the "sale price" is over in a day then it goes up to $24.00. The auction ends in about 3 days... And, No it's not me selling these... LOL I just love great deals....

Alright, thanks a lot for your help. I think I'm just gonna buy one of those radios. I'll probably go to a dealer to change it. I hope it won't cost much. Thanks again!

There are 6 radio head units for the X200 (2000-2002MY)
Standard radio and PREMIUM SOUND in 3 different colors.
Dark grey metalic, Sable and Mink.

The colors will not affect the installation but you need to determine if you have Premium Sound or NOT.

You might be able to change the face plate if the color does NOT match.
