Rear Ball Joints

Rear Ball Joints
The rear of my S Type 3.0L 2000 squeaks and I took it into the jag deal/shop.
They informed me that my "rear toe link boots for ball joints are completely dry."
Their estimate was $790 to replace.
I can see the ball joints and was wondering if this is something I can do myself.
Has anyone done this for a 2000 S Type? If so could you provide detailed instructions and let me know the best place to get the parts?
As a side note, I have been told that you can use a syringe to inject grease into the ball joints through a small hole and effectively take care of the problem. Thoughts?
As always... THANKS.

Boots on ours are cracked. Must be some crappy rubber. I have one of those needle injector things for the grease gun. Maybe worth a try?? I'll bet some 10 dollar tie rod end has the same size boot. If only I knew what.
