Default Rear Diff Noise -

Good evening everyone!
A few years ago under warranty, I had the rear diff replaced because of that whine noise...well last night, I was driving on the highway, at around 115KM an hour, when I would release my foot off the gas pedal, I would hear something like a grinding noise for a brief second, it happened a couple times, then Restricted Performance came on for about 3 min then shut off.

Following this, drove home from an xmas party, about 40 min....and the car was fine. The temp last night was -15C.
Any advice fellas?
Thank you as always
SIXX

I can't see a diff causing RP so likely something else - bearing maybe? Can upset (ABS) speed sensor.

Thank you for the quick response.
Where would this bearing be located?

LOL - sorry - I meant a wheel bearing. They're the ones that affect the ABS sensors.

I appreciate your time thank you.
Is this an easy fix to replace? I am just happy it wasn't my rear diff failing again!

I can't _guarantee_ it's not the diff, though I can't see how it would cause what you report.

The workshop manual is free to download (or v cheap on ebay) and also someone's likely posted about diagnosing / changing a bearing (I dimly recall they have). Plus which parts are OK and affordable. Search (top of forum) is useful...

Often a bearing makes more noise when turning left (or right) than the other way, for example.

Are you sure it was from the differential or could it be from the drivetrain? Any way of having the OBDII codes read? If you have any codes please post the codes not what they tell you it means.

Good afternoon, went into restricted performance mode - twice today.
both times I read it...code P0305 came up.
I cleared code once. Right now engine light is still on...I didn't clear it.

You can just look that up in the freely downloadable jag doc which gives the known causes.

(May as well get the whole free workshop manual but the codes PDF is also separate if you just want that.)

Commonly a coil (for the spark plug). Nothing at all to do with the rear of the car.

Thank you for your advice! Is #5 on the easy to get at side of the engine?

I just recently in the past couple weeks had two of them done. One on easy side, and the one in the middle on the hard side that my mechanic was able to get out without removing anything to get access to it.

Numbering;

FRONT OF CAR

4 1
5 2
6 3

REAR OF CAR

My car is a 2006.
Good news is, it is on the easy side - phew...unless what I found was in correct.
I will keep you guys posted tomorrow on my fix!
Love this site.

Well that's right up to 2002.5MY (2003 USA) but not for more recent - and of course is the V6 only (make the obvious changes for V8).

This is why one should get the free downloads as they show the right stuff first time.

I did a search and that is what I got for the v6 on this site.
I am not savy on vehicles at all.
My car is a v6.
Back to the drawing board.

Use this link for your cylinder numbering. Go to page 14

Link http://www.jagrepair.com/images/Auto...sb_09_2003.pdf

Take it from one who knows change all your plugs and coilpacks. You will regret it if you don’t.
