Default Rear passenger door problem

It feels like the door handle is hard to pull, like something is no longer lubricated inside the latch mechanism and is dragging. I'm afraid to do damage to something by using the door.

How should I remedy this?

You'll probably need to remove the interior door panel and have a good look at your door latch mechanism in order to determine what may be causing the problem. It could be anything from misalignment to broken components. I believe that Rick (joycesjag) had to replace some rear door latch parts recently on his 2005 S-Type. If he's around today, I'm sure he'll chime in here with more details. You may also want to search the forum using the key words "door latch repair" or something similar....

Just to clarify, you are referring to the door pull handle being difficult to 'pull' and release the latch in order to open the door, correct?

You are not referring to the door being difficult to swing open, as if the hinges are sticking?

Correct, the handle is hard to pull. Once pulled the door swings freely.

You may want to try lifting the exterior door handle and spraying some lube into the upper recess of the door handle. You may have to do it a couple of times.

You can refer to the link for what you are going to be dealing with.

Have fun!!!
