Default Rear veiw mirror dead!

My rear veiw mirror will not dim, turn on or off, in fact it does nothing!
There is no compass only a sensor and an on/off switch.
I have tried shining a torch on the sensor but nothing seems to trigger this thing to life.
A bit frustrating mostly at night.
Help.

STR (pre production) Australian Model.

...better than mine. It's not only doing that; it's also badly distorted.

You will need to replace the mirror. I have attached a 7 page instruction sheet for what I think is the correct mirror. Take a look and make sure it matches what your car has. The mirror is made by Donnelly. 866-416-3470.

Sorry I could not get everything uploaded in this e-mail!! File upload limit is 5 pages. Please see the second e-mail below for the additional 2 pages. I can't send it as a single document because of forum size limits on attachments.

When you get it fixed don't forget to calibrate the compass. The instructions for that are in the attached document.

DO NOT purchase it from Jaguar!! You will pay a premium for this. Deal with Donnelly or get a used one from EBay or a junk yard.

Thanks for your reply tbird6.
I will measure if power is getting to the mirror first as per the instructions, if it is it appears that the head will need replacing as you mention.
Just for my curiosity, is this a common fault and what fails on it?
Cheers.

Default Beware of the light reactive fluid in the mirror

My mirror failed a couple of years back.

After a few weeks of using it in daylight reflection, awaiting a replacement, a dark fluid started to drip onto the console. It is very acidic and has left pitted areas around the ashtray and black spots on the vinyl. Nothing will remove them.

Jaguar deny it ever happens and even providing the proof I got nothing from them.

The replacement mrror from Jaguar is totally overpriced - there are good OEM copies available at half the price. Check JagParts.

See if you can get one.

Good luck

David

It's not real common and the Lincoln LS also suffers from this failure. Usually you get dark spots in the mirror and sometimes they leak liquid on to your console. Makes a mess!!

Thanks, Bruce

Hey there -

Is Donnelly still around? When I called that number, it was a class action suit hotline.

I am finally getting around to replacing my mirror! Woohoo!

They're in Michigan, too! Coolness

I have heard of this on another car forum and it's all traceable back to a single mirror supplier. It ruins the dash on a number of very expensive automobiles out there.

So the Jag has this damn mirror too?

Oh great! Mine has the rain sensing wipers too which is all mounted on the windshield. I wonder how that figures into a repalcement for this?

Magna Donnelly is the name of the place. However, Sybesma's Electronics in Holland, Michigan (US) does the replacements for you! Their phone number is (616) 392-6911. They were great to me on the phone. I'll be getting a remanufactured one shortly

Should be $75 plus shipping and my clapped out mirror back to them as a core.

I just pulled mine off the windshield......pull down in line with the window or you could break the windsheild.....looking at maga-bucks for a window. I bought the replacement from E-Bay. 160.00 to my door. I ordered it yesterday. Dealer wanted over 500.00 bucks for replacement. The job was not too hard to remove the 011530 mirror made by Donnelly. That very corrosive mirror fluid has been named "Dragon's Blood" over on the Lincoln LS forums because of its powerful effect on whatever it drips on!!

If your mirror has spots in it be careful because it’s getting close to leaking.

Thanks for posting updated information! What I posted is now old and out of date.
