Default Rear View Camera Installation

For some time now I've wanted to install a rear view camera in my 2004 S-type. I'm using an aftermarket Kenwood double din unit that works great. But I can't get the camera to display a video signal to the R-Cam input when I put the car in reverse.

I followed the instructions from another thread.

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...problem-79070/

The wiring colours are different but the concept seems to be the same. When I put the car in reverse, I get a positive and ground just like the above thread describes. This turns on the relay, which I have tested and it works correctly. The camera has also been tested with a simple 12v hookup sends an image to the head unit. But when I connect everything inside the boot to the relay, reverse light coil and camera, and then put the car in reverse I don't get a video image.

The setting for the R-CAM interrupt on the Kenwood unit is set to ON.

The solution is likely something simple but what am I missing?

Many thanks,

The camera uses 1.5 amps and the relay supplies 30 amps.

It looks like in your description you are switching for a ground as well , just earth the camera to a permenent ground I/e battery negitive or frame , just use the relay to swich the power on , also the relay is rated at 30a max you need to test it to see what it is delivering once it's swiched on ,
Does the head unit require a switch signal from the reverse relay or does it switch via RCA signal ?

You were correct about the head unit requiring a switch signal. I have the camera working but the camera interrupt on the head unit now works when I put the car in park, not reverse. I have the switch signal wire to the head unit connected to the wrong source. Haven't worked that out just yet.

And the wiring to the relay is different from the link I originally used. Had to reverse the black and blue wires on the relay, and the wiring on the reverse wiring loom that I linked to was not Orange and Green, but Black and Green. The loom did not have an Orange and Green wire.
