Default Rear Window Defogger S Type

I had after market window tint applied to my S type 2005 and, for various reasons, removed it all. All except the rear window. I used a heat gun to soften the adhesive and the tint peeled off the windows easily. The adhesive cleaned up with tint adhesive remover and the windows are pristine again. I'm hesitant to use the heat gun on the rear window because I'm not sure if the rear window defogger wires are attached to the surface of the glass or embedded inside it. I don't want to pull the wires off the glass when removing the tint. Thank you.

Was the tint film applied by a shop? It may be worthwhile to pay them for removal to prevent damage.

Not sure about the later models, but on my '02, the heating wires are like a thin layer of paint on the inside. They would be very easy to damage. You can get special conductive repair paint, but that's only realistic for a spot fix. It wouldn't work very well to repair widespread damage.

From my limited experience (on other cars), repair access is very awkward due to the slant of the glass and the adjacent parcel shelf.

As it just so happens I just removed the window tint off the rear window of my 06 STR this afternoon. I didnt use heat at all. Well that’s not true. I tried using heat but the tint just ripped and left a little shards everywhere so I quit. I went out and bought some window tint remover. It’s an actual spray you spray on the tint itself and lo and behold it really came off the window!! I just need to go back over it and clean up the mess and adhesive residue

The big question: Did the defroster grid survive?

It was applied by a shop, and they did a very good job. $190 for all four windows and the rear window. I removed the rear tint myself. Just grabbed a corner and started gently pulling. I came away in one piece, but left the adhesive residue. The shop said they'd charge $150 to clean the residue. I used Gila Window Tint Adhesive Remover (the same brand the shop used) and got most of it off after 3 hours. Some remained around some difficult places to reach, but are visible from the ouside. Shop said they'd fix that too... for the small one-time price of $100. You drive a Jag, regardless of the year and people think you're made of money.
