Thumbs down Rebuilt transmission problem.....

Ok so as some of you know, i had a bad transmission on my 2001 Jaguar S-Type so i decided to go for a complete overhaul 3 weeks ago, everything was running fine with zero problems and now i got a transmission fault message again but it was only for about a minute or 2.

I'm thinking of just selling this car now, how much do you guys think i could get for a 2001 Jag S-Type with 20inch chrome Hoyo's H7s, 111K Miles and in like new condition all around? Thanks.

Just curious, who did you have do the work on the trans? Was it a dealer or a local trans shop?

And on selling it, you can get a good idea on the price by just doing a little searching on the net. Personally, I think any S older then 2003 is more a "hopelessly in love" story like say married for over 25 years. You want to move on sometimes and get the newer model but your eyes are glazed over and you just see the beauty that once was and want to give it another chance everytime it lets you down because even with age, it still is so beautiful. (is that a good analogy?) So you keep it like me and wish for the best and if you have the time and ability to continue to take care of it, you do.

One more thing, without this site and all of these great "marriage counselors" to help, I would have dumped her and gone for a newer model.

I sold my 01 two years ago with 85,000 on it. Mint condition with warranty for 7 grand, private sale. I tried 3 dealers and they all offered me 4 grand. They said conditon and extras only mattered slightly.
I don't think you will get over 4 or 5 grand now.

Good luck, maybe keeping it is the best value to you.

Max 3k or pushing it 3.3k, Jags have horrible re-sale values sorry My dads a dealer and see's soo many X and S types go dirt cheap. I'm sure you heard of the worlds largest Auto Auction over here in Orlando Florida, "manheim auto auction" YOU find tons of S types going for cheap. The STR's are another story they somewhat hold their value and are really hard to find. Best bet Craigslist the Biatch or you can cross over to Mexico and and sell it to a drug cartel for more with the 20's on them , jk.

Are you sure about this? A friend of mine just sold his 2002 S-Type for 14K with 50k miles. And looking on craigslist here in San Diego a 2000 S-type goes for about 7k..
hmmm weird.

Not so weird. Check out www.cars.com pop in your zip code, S Type used and give it a 200 mile radius. That will get you well into the LA area for prices. They float all over the place..

It depends where you are and what the markets like, maybe out west there is a better market value but out here on the east coast a Jag with 100k plus miles on it isnt going to get you any profits unless its made of gold,lolz..but seriously higher the mileage very cheap its gong to be for a Jag to buy or sell

Thumbs down

Well its not that i really want to sell the car but right now I'm in a position were i cant afford fixing a car constantly...i just put in $2600 on it 3 weeks ago on a tranny rebuild and i thought i was set and now it's in the shop again.

The guy i take it to was recommended by a friend, he says the problem now seems to be that the computer is not getting the right information from the solenoid pack, they are also checking all the wiring too, the good thing is i dont have to pay a cent because the tranny has a 2 years warranty.

But still i dont want to be walking back home every 3 weeks.

I feel your pain man, I too wouldn't want to keep fixing something up that was suppose to be fixed in the first place. On the bright side you said you don't have to pay a cent, thats excellent!. Once it is fixed, test the waters and see how much you can get for her, its the best time before other things start falling apart and you are left to shell out more money which you can save instead You can always get something later on after selling this one, with lower miles and a better condition S type.

Best of luck and remember when one problem starts many follow right after
