I wish I would have waited 5 more minutes to read this... I just went up to autozone and got a duralast gold based on another thread I read.

side note...

I disconnected the battery before I was posting and went back out and reconnected the battery. the parking brake error went away after I reset it. I thought that was kind of odd...

Nonetheless, I did replace the battery and after I had installed the new battery the same error pop up. However, once I reset the parking brake the error went away.

I'm going to get under the car this weekend and lube up the cables and see if that isn't part of the problem.

I remember recently reading a post by norri detailing the calibration steps for the parking brake; certainly would not hurt running through the steps once the battery is re-connected.

I also just reset my parking brake after my pre-emptive battery replacement.

Got no errors (except for the prompt on the dash to reset parking brake).

Wow - walmart $75 vented battery? Who would have thought!

Did some research - it's made by the Everpower company in Taiwan. Private label that only sells in the US via the walmart chain.

Personally I'm paranoid when it comes to batteries, and I end up doing big stereos in all my cars, so I stuck the biggest Optima Yellow Top I could find in there. 1260 CCA or some ridiculous number like that.

Rick,

Have you had a bad experience with WalMart batteries? Or WalMart in general?

Neither or Jon, Joyce and I have our beliefs in not patronizing Walmarts for anything!

If we have to spend a few more dollars elsewhere then so be it.

This subject is like talking about religion, politics, or Chevy vs. Ford and such......

I'm 110% with you on that one Rick... So, the Osworth family does not allow any of it's limited cash to go to "Big N Large" corporation either... (for those who don't know what that is..Do yourself a favor and watch the movie WALL-E, it's not just for kids.)

Oh, and the only way the kids get a "Happy Meal" is if Grandma takes them...

OK, I'll stop now.....

Default CANNOT APPLY PARKBRAKE new weekly STR problem

New weekly problem with the 03 STR is cannot apply parkbrake accompanied by constant beeping! Tried the EPB reset, the message stays on but the idiotic beeping is gone. Why Jag made the automatic, unneccessary automatic electronic brake in the first place is crazy! I guess they had to give you something for the $65K when new.
Anyway from the forum it looks as though an old battery could be the culprit. The car has a jag battery, not sure if it's original since we bought the car used last August but it could be, now maybe 8 years old Wallmart has the Maxx H8 in stock for $95
The battery book says I should use the smaller H6 for a 03 V8 but I think the STR must have used the bigger battery, The battery in the 03 STR is at least 14 or 15 inches long, did the 03 use a smaller battery for the 4.2 and a bigger battery for the STR?
I've also heard mention of a recall for the brake module. Does anyone know if this is true?
The vehicle is a 2003 STR Vin SAJEA03V531M53654
Any ideas about the problem, battery and recall are appreciated.
Thanks,
Cheers.
Bob
