Default Rejuvenating my brake calipers

I tried searching for this question but could not find it specifically answered. The brakes on my car are working fine, but cosmetically they are really rough and in need of cosmetic improvement. Being OCD I was wondering if there is a way to reapply the "R" logos and such on them as they are somewhat worn off and looking neglected.

TIA for any help.

Pushin_Tin, there are all kinds of threads about this subject in the "exterior section" too many to list, a search would help find what your looking for faster. Start here: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...splay.php?f=22

Pushing_Tin:
Good to see you on the forum but we really need the year and model of your car for ALL questions. Consider building a signature that contains this so you don't have to retype it every time.

Thanks! Yes you put STR but the STR has two completely different braking packages depending on the year of the car. This can throw off the answers you get if the year is not given.

The ones I saw were not for the Brembos and would not fit them.

You can always be different and do something like I did. I actually still have an unopened box of red G2 caliper paint that I ended up not needing. Had a friend make the decals he is actually a designer that does vinyl decal work.

Vance, I'd like to know about which cross-drilled rotors you used too. Do you have a bake dust issue with your current pads? My 2009 Z had the same size rotors but ZERO dust, granted the car weighed 1500lbs less, but still.

The pads are the ones that came on the car. The fronts are most likely ceramic cause there is no dust. The rear are most likely a metallic cause the rims get covered within 3 days. My pads were pretty new so I only replaced the rotors. I had a warped one in the rear so I got all 4 from brakeperformance.com. I got there black cross drilled and slotted and they were under 500 front and back. I believe it was about 450 but I would have to look at the reciept. I had some pretty bad nicks in the calipers from where it looks like someone was doing a brake job. I wanted something a little different that was a little flashy but not too much. So I got some G2 caliper paint. I bought about 4 extra cans of brake cleaner on top of the one that comes with the kit and cleaned the calipers till they looked brand new. Then I did a light 800 grit sanding just to get something for the paint to stick too. Then I mixed up the paint according to G2's instructions and brush painted about 4 light coats on each caliper. Once that dried for pretty much the entire day I had a friend cut the vinyls and mail them too me so I applied those making sure they were centered. Its actually the Jaguar Racing logo but the racing was way too small so only put Jaguar and the leaper. Then once those were on I cleared over the whole caliper to seal the vinyl in so it wouldnt peel up from heat. I've had it like this for almost 2 months now and still looks perfect. The color looks just like Brembo red. I always get people asking where I got the brake kit at. Everytime I give her a bath when I wash the rims I get out a toothbrush that is specifically for the calipers and dip it into the soap and give them a nice clean and it looks like I just got done painting them. I like them alot and cant recommend G2's kit enough. I used the Duplicolor one on my last car and the G2 is far better. The Duplicolor was already chipping just putting the brakes back together. G2 looks like it was powdercoated. If you have any other questions let me know. Or if you would like other pics I can take some if you want to see it better. I also should still have the file I emailed my friend to get them cut in case you are interested in that design. You should be able to take it to a place that cuts out vinyl and the file should work for them.

Wow thanks for all the info Vance. Too bad they don't give rep points on this board, as I'd give you some for the great info. So you jacked up the car, pulled off each wheel and did all of the painting with the calipers still on the car correct?

I put the car up on blocks. Then I removed all the wheels. Then off came the pads, rotors and calipers. Then I remounted the calipers with no rotors or pads on just so they could stay in one place. Then I cleaned and painted. Let dry about 16-18 hours just to make sure then reinstalled everything. I have been really busy lately but I made a video on how to do a front and rear brake job that I still need to edit so I can get it on my youtube channel. Gonna try doing that before my move next month. Here is a pic of how I had it set up for paint. Since I was brush painting I didnt have to mask anything off since there would be no overspray. I did have to spray the clear but if you are careful you shouldnt get any like I did. As you can see in the pic I painted a majority of the caliper. To save on not having to use 2 kits I didnt paint the area near where it mounts as you can not see it when assembled. I also painted half way down the inside of the calipers enough that the pads cover whats still gray. I painted enough that if the rotors and pads are on but the wheels are off you can not see a single bit of the old color. I used one kit completely to do all 4 calipers with 4 coats and barely had any left.

Out of curiosity, did you clear OVER the decal, or is the decal over the clear.

How are the decals holding up with the extremes of heat / road wear that the braking system goes through?

Thanks,

George

I applied the G2 as per the instructions with the supplied brush. After it dried I applied the decals then cleared over the decals to seal them in per say. The decals still look like I just applied them havent had a single problem. I have a toothbrush that I clean the calipers with everytime I wash the car so the calipers still look exactly like the pics. I do wish I put just one more coat on cause I did have a small chip in one of the rears where it was a little thin. I havent fixed it yet and you really have to bend down and look to see it. Its on a corner also. Gonna touch it up and then clear it to level it out and should look perfect again. I also dont use any harsh chemicals to clean them either the G2 puts a really nice finish on the calipers all I use it soap and water.
Here is a quick pic of the fronts from today. Hasnt been washed in a week also.
