Default Remote Fob Behaviors

If anyone happens to have granular detail on the design of the remote lock/unlock functionality for the first gen S, allow me to pick your brain.

1. I have noticed that pressing the unlock button on the fob within range will flash lights once, unlock the driver door and unlock the trunk. If you are more than 2-3 feet away from the car, subsequent presses do nothing. Only once you are within 2-3 feet of the car, will pressing the unlock button twice unlock all doors and/or holding the button will open windows.

2. At various times after turning off ignition and closing all doors, the car will not respond to any fob commands. Only after waiting 30-45 seconds the car will perform as expected; (I am referring to as timeouts). This seems to be more prevalent when leaving a door open for over a minute after ignition off.

My questions for the sake of education and nerd curiosity...

- Have you ever encountered the random "timeouts"? Are these just glitches or is there some logic preventing an immediate lock? (i.e. lockout prevention)

- Does the need to be within 2-3 feet of the car to unlock all doors sound correct? I am assuming this is a security feature.

- Where is the antenna for the remote fob located on the car?

Notes...

- The above behaviors happen with both remotes. Both remotes have been thoroughly cleaned, have had several new batteries installed, battery contact points have been cleaned, and a dab of dielectric grease on contact points for good measure.

- I have installed sound dampening in the trunk, which is comprised of a tar backing with a top layer of foil. Given the driver unlock works 100+ feet away (with a clear line of sight) and the "timeouts" happen randomly only for a brief period of time, I do not think it is impacting performance.

No. I've never experienced this.

No again. The first press works from a good range, maybe 200 feet? After the first press, the second press unlocks all doors from the same distance.

Interesting. Yes, outside my VIN. Thankfully I’ve never had an issue with unlocking (aside from needing to be closer to the car), the timeouts only apply to locking.
