Repair Cost.

RE: Repair Cost.
Did they tell you WHY and show you?
You only need a new pan if you smoked something and it cracked. I assume it is aluminum so it can only crack if you whack it HARD - they just don't "leak" all of a sudden. You could get the local wrencher to yank it off and get it welded with a tig bead. It's possiblt it's just a shrunken gasket as well.
So, did you hit something with a good thwump driving down the road? Bad speed bump? A raccoon in knight's armor?

RE: Repair Cost.
Have you stuck your head under the car to have a look at what is going on? You should clean off all the oil to try and see where the leak is coming from.
If you don't want to do that it would be worth investing a few $s to have your regular garage check it out for you and see if there is a less expensive fix.

I have a 2004 S type 3.0 and they are telling me I need a new oil pan. Small leak. Almost $700. Should I just go to the garage I always deal with, who I know can fix it? I definitely think that's too much.
Thanks,
J. Spags

jspagnal: I agree with the guys / look under your car and check it out. Other than a hole in the pan itself, I'm not sure why you would have to replace the entire oil-pan. You should be able to clean off the pan, run the car, and see where the leak is coming from.
I just had my oil-pan gasket replaced today by Jaguar...that plusa newcoolant hose, plus a fuel-filter were about $713.00 USD, so, if it's just a gasket, your cost should be about $400.00-$500.00 USD for parts and labor ...probably muchless if done at a private garage. Hope that helps.
