Default Replaced alternator and jag still wont stay on

So I've recently replaced my battery because the car would start and then die in about a minute. So of course that didn't work because the car starts perfect but won't stay on. Then I replaced the alternator because thats the obvious problem(not really) and start the car and still won't stay and but this time the battery light flickers and stays on for a bit longer and then dies. I'm honesty out of idea guys. Could it be the connector thats plugged into the alternator? Or could it be something else. Also by the car was working perfectly fine right before then. Pleaseeeee help, this is my first car and my only car.

Stop messing with the alternator etc.

What made you think it was electrical in nature?

How have you ruled out an air leak? That would be typical.

Air leak is definitely a possibility. Before any of this started I replace my spark plugs...all of them which requires the removal of the intake manifold. In the process I managed to loose track of which goes where. I did put all the hoses back onto something and that's when my problems started.....come to think about it....none of my problems started until I took of the intake manifold. Can someone post a picture of how a proper jaguar s type 3.0 engine is supposed to look like? I think all of this could be a simple fix but I would need to know what I put back wrong first.

Hope you didn't trade in your old alternator as a "core." ....or you'll probably be looking at that red "Batt" light a lot in the future!

There is a post here somewhere showing all the vacuum lines on the 3.0L. I believe it was artfully drawn-on and highlighted by JoycesJag. Don't tell us you changed all that stuff on a pre-2003 3.0L and didn't renew the little vacuum elbow underneath it all that is prone to failure early and often?

Check the stickies for that vacuum-line post. I'll probably have time to find it and post back a link in a week or two.....or you could locate it yourself with about 5 min. of searching.

I'll take the intake manifold off as soon as I get home from school and post pictures. Just outta curious and I'm pretty sure it's an obvious answer but if I were to have put the intake on wrong, could that be the lead to all my problems??

Okay guys I got the manifold off, pretty easily this time. On the back of the engine towards the firewall, I found an empty loose tube. Can anyone tell me where it goes or what goes into it?

Mannn, call me Hoover I am getting sucked in.......

Isaiah, I am not really familiar with your MY 3.0. I went through all of my realtime photos I have taken over the years looking for that hose, sorry I came up empty. Have you downloaded JTIS, free here on the forum?
I am posting the picture below of a 2003 MY that I worked on many moons ago for a fellow member.

I have to ask have you "lifted" the lower intake manifold to expose the 6 odd shaped intake seals, and also it exposes the infamous rubber hose 90 degree elbow that most likely needs to be replaced. It is not shown below, they engineered it out for the 2003 and up MY's. The elbow and replacement is shown on Gus's site and referred to in my post #5 link above.

The early cars have a hose or two especially prone to perishing as I recall. One buried deep, the other... back of engine?

JagV8, that was what I have been trying to state since post #5. I don't think his muffler bearing is at fault .

Please get the shop manual as suggested above. It's free and you need it. You are screwing the car up because you don't know what you are doing.

I have a 2000 3.0 and I am having trouble identifying the line you are talking about.
