had another lugnut get destroyed the other week by a careless individual whom i warned about this happening when he was removing my tire. had to order another lug from dealer ($20) but being reimbursed for him doing this!! im going to order replacements from rockauto.com soon...

 

I did not take a before photo, too focused on getting the OEM crap off however, I did take one after installing the new nuts. For reference the wheel is a standard 2003 STR unit and I am more than happy although, as mentioned I have no idea how the finish will last; in the not too distant future I maybe crying a different tune.

 

You won't be crying a different tune. Nothing could be worse than the lousy factory two-piece lug nuts that apparently sell for an incredulous $20 each yet aren't worth the $1 that I would sell mine for to anyone that wants them....

As I've said before, if you rotate your own tires this lug nut swap is a no-brainer and a big bang-for-the-buck....

 

Well if you purchased the Dorman product like you posted they have a lifetime warranty. So you should be fine if you keep the receipt.

You bring up a good point with the warranty; RockAuto has a solid 30 day return policy coupled with Dorman's Limited Lifetime warranty so as you say, keep the receipt.

As for the lug nuts I took off, I would sell them but all the Cro-Magnon's with their impact drivers pretty much destroyed them.

 

I had a hell of a time with mine. One was so wrecked it had to be drilled out. The garage head then suggested I replace them with mis-sized nuts. So if someone tries to steal the wheels they will need a full set of wrenches with them as the new ones are not a standard size. I have an adapter that fits on the end of the wrench. They also have a dome so they look different from the rest of the nuts and appear to be locking.

 

In case anyone is on the fence about doing this, read about the ordeal I just went through with the failure of these crappy factory lug nuts.

Well, I had already ordered the Dorman lug nuts when I had the worst possible weekend with the STR. I took my son to his Baseball tourney (a little town 80 miles south of our home). On the way back Saturday night I had a blow out in the front driver-side tire (a very gentle one, though...). I quickly got the wrench out and took off the first lug with no problems. That was the last lug that came off...

So, 9pm Saturday and I'm stuck in a high school football parking lot. I had a friend find a tow truck (local only, no long hauls run until Monday). They haul it to their impound lot and then took it to Discount Tire this morning. They got 3 more lugs off (all broken) but they have to use some kind of extraction socket to get the last one off.

I headed to 3 Mitsubishi dealers to get 10 lug nuts for the front two wheels (both fronts needed replacing). So my grand total thus far is:

10 lugs - $61 (normally $9 each, had internet pricing)
Tow truck twice $120
2 days in storage $80
2 tires $650 (Michelins)

If I could have gotten the spare on, I would have avoided the extra $200 and would have gotten it home. Hopefully, the Dorman lugs will arrive this week so I can replace the rear lugs as well.

Did I mention that the alignment is now completely hosed (see the "thus far" above)?

I recommend that everyone that would like to avoid towing for a simple flat replace the lugs...

Found these on Ebay but I haven't asked the question to the seller; I wonder if these are OEM or an OEM "type". Anyone know?
The listing says 20 Jaguar OEM s-type, x-type factory "STYLE" lug nuts.

 

Jaguar does not make or spec a Solid OEM nut.

They supply the 2pc nuts that we all are having the same nightmare with. And according to people charge $20 a piece for them if not more.

I saw those on ebay as well, they are definitely solid, and look to have the correct tapered seat with washer. So I believe they will in fact work properly. However, they are of an unknown manufacturer, and I doubt the warranty claims of an ebay seller. Plus they are way more expensive than the Dorman ones from Rockauto.com

Dorman is good quality stuff, and is well known in the auto industry. The wheel studs I just replaced due to my lug nut fiasco are Dorman. They claim a lifetime warranty, and I have no doubt they will honor it.

Bytor, that really sucks! That makes my story seem like a minor inconvenience by comparison. Hope it all gets resolved and you get away without damage to a wheel.

I got the dreaded phone call form the mechanic. Bent inner tie rod. Jaguar does NOT sell just the inner tie rod, so I must buy the entire steering box. $1400 quote from the dealer...

What a horrible patch of bad luck...

Maybe he can get you just the inner tie rod that you need....

Click right above that onto Rack and pinion unit complete. - I can't get the link to the steering rack to come up directly.

Also, If you hit something that cut a tire AND bent the inner tie rod, plus had to have the wheel forced off.. I'd spin that wheel on a balancer. I find it hard to believe an 18" wheel took that large an impact, and suffered no damage but transfered all the force to the suspension.

I just ordered 20 shank lug nuts (as per an earlier post) #MB579290 (retail $8.99ea). But because I was ordering 20 they sold them to me for $100TTL all-in.

Follow-up on the Dorman PN:611117 Lug Nuts.

I fitted these on my 2003 STR late February this year and today had reason to remove a wheel.

I noticed the chrome is flaking and some minor rust traces are showing in and around the flats of each lug nut.

Although purchased through RockAuto I am well over their 30 day period so I will be contacting Dorman in connection with their lifetime warranty.

Anyone with the Dorman 611117 may want to check condition.

 

So, there are two different dorman parts that we can use?

My Mitsubishi lug nuts (mounted in early February 2010) purchased from the local Chrysler dealership are still in perfect shape. Just pulled four at random to take a peek (one from each wheel). I paid more for them than you guys did for your various on-line orders (about $115 out the door with sales tax), but I may have received a better-quality product as a result....

 

I just got quoted $28.00 per lug nut plus labour by the dealer in Scottsdale AZ for my 2005 XJ8L - do you know if it uses the same lug nuts as the S-Type? I would like to avoid giving them $600 if possible.

At that point, do not pass go, do not collect $200. Take the car and drive straight to your nearest chrysler or mitsubishi dealer. Ask the lug nuts for an 04 chrysler sebring. I believe there is a part # somewhere in this thread. I think they are about $6-7 each.

Or you could order the dormans.

For the price of either you could get lug nuts, a NICE air compressor, line and an airgun of your own, and have $$ left over for lunch.

That's insane.
