Replacement of right rear lower control arm
HI,
I own a S type base 2003, and need to replace right rear lower control arm and would like to ask you what could be the part number for both the whole component of lower control arm and bushing itself.
What I found after few hours of searching on internet is that the control arm really cost an arm and leg and I would like to save some money by just replacing bushings.

Please share your any idea of the part and replacement.
Thank you in advance for your help!

There are numerous threads on the forum about the rear lower control arms . It seems that only 1 of the 3 bushings is readily available. It is the 54mm wide bushing. It fits in the other position that originally has a 59mm wide bushing with the use of a washer on each side. The body that presses into the control arm have the same width. (The 54mm bushing is a mono-ball bushing filled with a lubricant and a seal on each end. It is claimed these last forever, but the outer seals rot, crack and then the fluid leaks out. - Usually in 3-7 years)
The larger 3rd bushing comes in 2 varieties on the S-types, Standard S-type and STR. The standard one is a solid rubber bushing, the STR is also rubber, but has cutouts in it and is stiffer. I have yet to see the STR bushing for sale anywhere! As far as I've seen so far, the larger bushing typically doesn't need replacing.
Occasionally a complete set of regular aftermarket S-type bushes shows up on E-bay. (I believe about $160- 180 per control arm)
From my point of view, the ones I've seen for sale are way too expensive. USD $60 to $70 each. (The majority of other similar mono-ball bushing typically sell for around $35 each)
I believe that all the control arms on the S-types are way way overpriced.
Captive small market they can charge what they want.
lastly, Be really careful with replacing the stock mono-ball bushing with urethane bushings. The set I purchased ended up ruining the handling of the car and were unsafe!
Looks like you are joining the ranks of frustrated S-type owners that have to pay outrageous prices for the unique suspension parts used on our cars.

- I also forgot to state that if you decide you have to replace the large one, it destroys itself when you press it out. The rubber typically tears out of the outer shell. The outer shell is thin and I had to hammer mine out by smashing a "V" groove into it to separate it from the control arm.
The other 2 are easy to press out. Before you press them out measure the position of the bushings on each side of the control arm. They should be centered, but you will want to be sure you press them in to basically the same distance on each side of the control arm.
