Replacing Fuel Pump
#1
#2
The actual electric pump is on the right side of the 'saddle tank'. The left side contains the 'jet pump' to transfer the fuel to the side that feeds the engine. It is accessed by removing the rear seat bottom and metal shield.
It is controlled by a module to supply a PWM signal and there is no return line or pressure regulator (returnless system and NOT direct 12V).
You can remove the pump/level sensor assy by unscrewing the plastic retainer ring and disconnecting the fuel hose. The 'side-to-side' transfer hose is inside the tank on this model so that will need to be disconnected also.
I suggest marking the retainer ring so that it can be reinstalled to the same place to ensure proper tightness and fitting. There is an arrow on the unit and tank to make sure the unit is installed and aligned correctly.
Here is a TSB that might help you.
