Restricted performance
Hi all, I am experiencing a restricted performance light coming up on my 2005 s-type diesel . The main dealer have had a look and cleaned the maf whatever that is but have stated the turbo may need replacing !!!
I have looked at the previous threads on this but they appear to be about petrol s-types. The fault is triggered when the accelerator is pressed hard otherwise the car will just poddle along fine. Hoping someone can help. Cliff.

Hello Cliff,
Sorry to read about the problems.
Even though this site is international it is mainly North Americian based, hence all the petrol s-types. Oil burners were not shipped here.
You will have better luck in resolving your problems if you go to the UK Jaguar forum: Jaguar Forum.co.uk • Index page
You may want to post up codes there as well.
Good Luck

No diesels in the USA/Canada so very few posts here that are relevant. Plenty on the UK forum.
What code number(s) were there? Can't do anything without those
Classic thing with the diesel is it needs plenty of miles regularly and to be driven hard so the turbos are used. Sticking turbos are expensive! Other common failure on it is EGR (not the petrols, though).
edit: pah. beaten to it!
Also, see below:

Like the others said.. Not many oil burners here.. Still good to ask though..
Restricted Performance will throw codes, so that is a good place to start. One important thing to remember.. Restricted Performance is NOT the same as Limp Mode. In a nutshell..
Restricted Performance = Moderate issue (as seen by the computer)..
Limp Mode = Really Bad issue (as seen by the computer)...
This of coarse has no correlation to the cost of the repair... Failed Catalytic Converters can cause Restricted Performance where a wet connector can cause Limp Mode..
