When I "tuned up" Joels 2003 S Type, he had purchased coils from Rock Auto as well. After putting the 3.0 back together, I found that #5 coil had a hairline crack in it. I was sure if it were shipped to me like that or if somehow I cracked it. Anyways I dismantled the plenum again, replaced the cracked coil with a new one and used an old coil for #1 cylinder until the replacement came.
Sorry for the long story but heres the punch line. Rock Auto replaced the coil for free along with shipping.

I like Rockauto, have ordered from them multiple times over the years for spark plugs, brake pads, and a few other parts for multiple vehicles. But perhaps they are not the best source for Jaguar coils. Seems like an unusually high failure rate based on such a small sample size....
My research prior to purchasing our S-Type in December 2008 told me that Jaguar finally solved their coil problems by the 2005 model year. Yes or no?
