Default Restricted Performance - Warning

I had ask this question once before "in the S-Type Forum"but with no reply's.

So I will see if the second aroundtime is the charm "with this Forum".

This scenario happen to metoday:

While cruzing around 65mph I went to pass a another vehicle.
I floor it and when I get ahead of the car my Jaguar losses power. It is like
something gave way "no power to accelerate". And the Yellow Lite comes on
with a message in my display reading "Restricted Performance".

I am able to go about 65 mph "but zero power" , when I push the accelerator
down - nothing. I get off my exit and am going about 35 mph – still no power. It is like
it is running in reserve power.

When I get to my destination , I turn the car off. I then start the car back up
and take it done the road, it is fine now.

This is the second time this has happen in two weeks.

Any suggestion’s would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
2006 S-type 3.0

Does the check engine light stay on after restart? Restricted performance would normally leave CEL illuminated.
2006 S-type, from the sound of it, sounds like possibly throttle pedal or throttle body.
Without codes hard to say. 06 should be in warranty unless miles are high. I just had an 06 XJ with 121000 miles in the shop.

I have the 6 cylinder, the codes coming up are p1000 (according to the dude who check it he said it was a dealer code) and P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)

Super Jag, if you have a P0420 codes then you need a catalytic convertor. P0420 is for bank 1 catalyst below efficiency. If you care is within 8 years or 80,000 miles, you should be able to get it covered under warranty.
PM last six of VIN and I can look it up.
How many miles you have on there?
Also if you have lean codes for bank 1 and bank 2, if you have 2000-2002 S-Type then it is probably the lower breather hose or the upper breather.

Well another SOL incident it has 86,280 miles, so I guess I have to buy a new catalytic converter. When the guy read the code he said just to change the o2 sensor and it should be ok, should I do both? Oh and its a 2004

You should only need to replace the one thats bad. Once it is out of the car, they can look down in there and see it all crumbled apart.
The labour shouldn't be any more than an hour. The part may be pricey....precious metal in that piece.

Well I talk to them and they said that it gives them two o2 sensors on one bank and that it is a downstream code, something like that, they called to get the price and they said $150 a piece. So total for install is $355 is what he quoted me, including labor.....I just have to wait for them to come in, probably Monday. This jag mechanic is going to pick up my car Monday in the morning and bring it back in the afternoon after he is done with it.

I hope the O2 sensors fix it. I have never had luck replacing the O2 sensors once the P0420/P0430 codes rear their ugly heads.
Good luck.

You said you had both banks lean codes right? When P0174and P0172 are flagged at the same time you will get a restricted performance light, being leanand some randon misfiresmight be theroot cause for your cat to fail, just a thought.

Well they replaced the the O2 sensors and everything was a ok on Saturday. Sunday afternoon the check engine light turns on and the Restricted Performance is on again. I drove this morning and it starts to buckle a 3k rpm, but after 1 minute of driving it turns of. I will call this guy to tell him the problem. Will see what happens.

Well he look at the lower brether hose and saidit was fine then he cleared the code and told me to call him if it came back on. Well two days passed and the light came back on and the Restricted Performance message came on. Well its going back Monday to get looked at. Guess no luck with the O2 sensors I wanted to tell him that I doubt that both O2 sensor would go out at the same time but I don't want him to think I'm telling him how to do his job. I didn't pay for the O2 sensors anyways the dealer who sold me car is paying for the labor and parts to get the car up to par. I don't know what can be wrong, I mean the car drives perfectly fine. Maybe its just the IMT seals the JFT was mentioning on another post.

That is what I'm leaning towards a bad cat.... It bucks because of the restricted performance message makes the auto go into safe mode, limp mode which won't let it go past a certain rpm, then around 20 mphrestricted performance messageturns offbut the check engine light stays on, then it will go past 3k rpms.
