Default Rev sensor noise??? New one to me.

I've got a 2003 S Type with rev sensors. Until now they have worked great. Recently the started to act up. When I turn on the car a new buzz happens for ~10 sec or so. It's not the beep beep noise you getfrom theback seat, but more of an annoying buzz from back there. The button to turn them off is lit up. I'm guessing they are off, but I can't seems to get them back on? I've pushed the button with the gear shift in R, N, D and all I seem to get is that damn buzz agian.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

The light being illuminated means there is a fault in the park aid system. If you are getting a buzz noise, it may well be the speaker being blown out. The speaker is under the rear parcel shelf I believe.
If you turn the ignition on, not running, and apply park brake. Put car in reverse and you should be able to hear the sensors clicking if you put your ear up to them. It is a sonic sensor. Some people can hear it, others cannot. However, if your reverse aid system is inop, you probably wont hear anything. I would start with the speaker as it is not supposed to buzz at all.

I check those things. The sound I am hearing sounds like a purposful sound, not like a broken something. I'll check the speakers, but I think they are okay. I'll also listen for the sensors. Thanks.

Not the car stereo speakers, the reverse aid speaker. I have never heard one buzz before. Even with a fault, it should give you a long tone and the reverse aid disable light would stay illuminated. If you are getting a long buzz, I would be looking at the speaker.
Also, look in the trunk and see if you have water in there by the spare tire under trunk carpet. The park aid module is there on the left side in the wheel well (spare). The trunk seals do leak occaissionaly and get the module wet.

Ah. Okay. Where is the speaker? Is it that little square guy on top of the package shelf? The only car I usually work on is my 75 Bronco and that usually involves a Big Hammer or a welder.

Thanks

The big speaker you can see is the subwoofer. The park aid speaker is under the shelf. You have to remove shelf to access it.

I don't have the sub in the center. I'll look under the shelf

Any luck yet? Did you look in the trunk for water ingress?

Not yet, but the more I think about it, it did start after a bunch of rain last week. I'll look this weekend.

Is there a switch on the gearbox to control the reversing sensors?
Mine beep in all gears when something gets close, so I've disconnected the module for now as it gets annoying.

No it is just the rear, it was disconnected when I bought it, I hooked it up and played with it a bit but no luck.
I was reluctant to just get a new module, if there was a switch on the gearbox somewhere.
I should really have had the dealer check it whe it was in for the tourque convertor, but I never gave it a thought at the time.

Fault could be from anypart of the system unfortunately. If you have had water in the trunk, (by spare tire) chances are the module got wet and thats causing your issue.

Well I finally got around to checking the trunk. Yep. Lots of water. I drained it last night and used my shop vac to get the stubborn parts. Sensors are still doing that noise, but I'm guessing it will dry out in a day or 2. Why/where do these generally leak and is there a fix?

Thanks much.

I finally checked for water and yep. LOTS. I drained it and assume when things dry out I will be back in business.

Now. Why do these things leak?

Thanks much.

they leak at the trunk seal normally. Get a seal and replace it. Drying it out will not correct the sensor problem. You will need to replace the module if it got wet. Also make sure there is no corrosion on the connector plugged into it.

How much are those modules? And the seal for that matter?
