Reverse not engaging (sometimes it does)
I have a 2001 S-type 4.0 and the reverse gear does not engage at all times, it is slow to enage when it does engage but other times it will not engae at all, I have noticed that when it comes back i am usually facing downhill. I thought it to be a a fluid level but of course i cannot check that on the sealed unit. Any help here? the car is out of warranty and i dont want to be misled by my local service shop. The dealer is too far from me. - rich

RE: Reverse not engaging (sometimes it does)
WHEN REVERSE DOESNT ENGAGE DOES THE J-GATE LIGHT UP? THE S-TYPE HAS CABEL AND SHIFTER ISSUES,CHECK AND SEE THAT YOUR CABEL IS NOT STRECHED AND OUT OF ADJUSTMENT. IF THIS CHECKS GOOD HAVE YOUR LOCAL TRANNY SHOP CHECK THE FLUID LEVEL AND CONDITION.THE TRANY IN YOUR CAR IS THE SAME AS A FORD EXPLORER JUST WITH A DIFFERNT VALVE BODY COFIGURATION.
