Default S 3.0 stuck from 1'st to 2'nd gear

Hi,

My S 3.0 2004 would not shift out of 1'st to 2'nd and logged in computer as well as on dash. This happened twice while under Jaguar factory warranty. They would not replace the transmission as I requested, but replaced a bunch of other things like the cruise casette and a few other parts that I did not understand.

I believe the dash message was something like 'Unable to shift to 2'nd from 1'st' in bright yellow.

I have 2 questions:

1) Do you think they should have replaced the transmission?

2) Any ideas what a new transmission costs?

I did get the service manager to write a letter stating that if it failed again under the Jaguar dealership warranty that they sold me after the factory expired, that they would wave the $200 deductible.

Since it happened twice and was logged in the ECM, I thought that they would replace the transmission. Am I off base here? You know it's going to happen again the day after the warranty is up. There is only 23K miles on it.

Any thoughts/opinions by more experienced minds than mine much appreciated.

Thanks,

Boog

wow, well I had tranny problems also on my 01' because I had 22" rims on it, but same thing happen with my 1st and 2nd shift, If someone please correct me, we use 5R55n transmission which is also used in lincoln LS and thunderbirds which they have had also problems, well anyways what they did was since I am familiar with transmissions, they just installed a new torque converter. I might be wrong on your case, again, please someone correct me, total for what they did was $450 with warranty for 5 years by the mechanic . New ones can cost and I dont think you need a new in my opinion, just rebuilt one, max i would be is $900 for the whole job

The 2004 car has the ZF 6HP26 not the Ford 5R55N.

Your 2 cars are different in MANY ways - even the control modules - I do not see any way you could have a common problem.
