Default "S" button on a 2000 3.0 Style

When the "S" button, sport mode button is pressed, should a light come on in the dash or switch itself? When pushed should the switch stay in place until pushed again

in my 01 S-Type, there is a red pilot light on the button itself, but nothing on the dash. One press for on and it stays in place.

On my '02, the only indication is the little red dot on the switch. No message on the dash.

When the switch is pushed, it does not latch in the down position. It's just a momentary push button that returns to the same height whether in normal or sport mode.

That is what I thought. Since neither switch lights, I have to now figure out if it is the switches themselves, a light bulb or possibly a fuse? Doesn't make sense both lights went out together. Oh, I can't tell if it is on or not by my butt dyno.

You won’t notice much difference, it just shifts slightly faster (not as smoothly) but holds the gears slightly longer. It might be useful if you are towing a caravan or driving up a steep mountain.
