Just a thought; these diesels will be prob. Ford/Peugeot, have you asked a Ford mechanic? Is idle set at abt. 750-800rpm? Has the fuel filter been replaced (the one with the micron-sized apertures)? Any signs of injector clogging? I.e. flat spots, heavy fuel consumption, blue-whitish smoke. Have you checked battery terminals for sulphation (a white powdery encrustation -- it can upset the control computer).
Something to go on there.
Leedsman.
