S-Type 2001 4.0-Front Strut Lower Bushings
Just had ball joints replaced, and my mechanic noticed the lower bushings on the struts are pretty worn - although the struts themselves are working fine.
New struts are pricey $450-$625 each side, depending on where purchased, as they incorporate an electric pump. I know the simple, non electric struts will work and are less pricey .... if I want to stick some electric tape over the warning light on the dash .
Questions -
1) Has anyone found a source for just the lower bushing which is not sold as a separate lower front mounting kit?
2) Has anyone adapted a bushing from another strut or anything else? - the tech rep at 'Motorcars.com' in Houston suggested taking a bushing off a cheapo Sears strut as he thinks the sizing is universal.
Any suggestions to help save hundreds of bucks for a couple of rubber mounts?
Thanks, rd
